Choosing a Bird

Buying a bird is a long term commitment and a choice not to be taken lightly. Some birds have a life span as long or longer than humans. Therefore we encourage you to carefully research and spend time with us at The Parrot and Bird Emporium before making your decision,(for both your benefit and the benefit of your new feathered friend).

At The Parrot and Bird Emporium we have a genuine love for these birds. Our birds come to us as babies and are hand-fed four times a day until they are weened off of the formula and graduate to a more advanced diet. After selecting your bird we encourage you to visit and spend time (maybe even hand-feeding, with the guidance of our staff), while you are waiting for your baby to go home. Our birds are socialized with other birds and humans while they are in our care. The goal is for you to already have a relationship with your new family member before you bring him home.

Some questions to think about regarding your choice of birds include: What are my expectations regarding this relationship? Do you want a bird for companionship? Do you want a bird that talks? What is your living situation? Some birds tend to be noisy and are not a good fit for those living in apartment/condo type situations. Do I have enough space for the appropriate size cage? (Our staff can help you to determine the right size cage.) Do I have the time to spend with a bird? Birds are very social creatures and will require a fair amount of companionship on a daily basis.

After making your decision we will work with you to educate both you and your bird in order to make the transition from our store to your home as easy and enjoyable as possible. We have an open door policy as well so you can always feel free to call us or come in with any questions regarding your bird.

The decision to own a bird is really the decision to add a new member to your family and requires a long term commitment that is truly life changing. It can also be one of the most satisfying experiences that life has to offer. Visit us and meet our birds and knowledgeable staff today!
